Weekly Update September 23 2022

The annual McLean Artfest is coming up next Saturday, October 2nd from 10am to 4pm at McLean Central Park. Artfest is a free event featuring 40 regional artists, food vendors, a music stage, and activities for children. Once again, I am sponsoring a booth to display the work of talented local artists with autism and other disabilities. I hope you’ll stop by!

On October 6th, Delegate Jackie Glass (VA-89) and I are hosting the 10th Women Veterans Roundtable. We invite women veterans to join us for lunch to share your specific needs and concerns. As a longtime champion of women veterans, I value the opportunity to hear from you and I can’t wait to meet you.

Route 7 Upcoming Lane Closures for Sept. 25-30, 2022 

Crews will be performing excavation and fill operations, clearing, storm pipe work, paving and other construction-related activities on Sept. 25-30 along eastbound and westbound Route 7 and on other neighborhood streets. As a reminder, drivers will experience lane shifts on Route 7, traffic pattern changes on neighborhood streets, and detours along the corridor. Drivers are reminded that the speed limit along Route 7 has been temporarily reduced to 45 miles per hour in active work zones between Reston Avenue and Jarrett Valley Drive.

All work is subject to change based on weather and schedule. Crews may be conducting work during the overnight hours under the project's Fairfax County Noise Waiver permit.

Please note that Washington Gas crews are also working along the corridor as part of the concurrent pipe replacement project.

Early Voting Starts Today

Early voting is a process in which voters can vote before Election Day. All registered voters in Virginia are eligible to vote early in person, no excuse required. Early voting for the midterm elections begins this Friday, September 23rd in Fairfax and Loudoun Counties. 

If you reside in Fairfax County, please follow this link for information about the hours and days of operation. An additional 13 early voting sites will open on October 27th and information for those can be found using the same link.

If you reside in Loudoun County, please follow this link for important dates and deadlines for the upcoming general election. Additional early voting sites will open on October 24th and information for those can be found using the same link.

You’ll recall that redistricting took place last year and as a result you may be in a different Congressional district! Please check your registration information here to be sure you vote at the correct polling place.


Backpacks and Calculators Drive

McLean High School is collecting donations of backpacks and calculators for MHS students in need. Items are needed by September 30. Please click the Amazon Charity Wish List HERE to purchase backpacks, calculators, and school supplies for donation. Alternatively, Sign Up HERE to purchase a backpack or calculator for donation. If you choose to sign up to purchase an item at the store, you or your student can drop it off, or ship it to:

Veterans: Earn your V3 Certification in just one day!

The Virginia Values Veterans (V3) Program is an official Commonwealth of Virginia Program, authorized under the Code of Virginia (§ 2.2-2001.2). It is organized under the directorate of Veterans Education, Training, and Employment (VETE), within the Virginia Department of Veterans Services (DVS), an agency of the Secretary of Veterans and Defense Affairs.  The Virginia Values Veterans Program is a free state training and certification program for employers to help them implement nationally recognized best practices in recruiting, hiring, and retaining highly-skilled and dependable Veterans.
