Weekly Update September 16 2022

There are less than two months until the November 8th General Elections. Take some time to learn about your voting opportunities. Due to redistricting your Congressional District may have changed for the upcoming election.

Visit https://whosmy.virginiageneralassembly.gov to confirm your district and familiarize yourself with the candidates. I encourage you to share this information with your family, friends, and neighbors.

For the 2023 session of the General Assembly we will be taking recommendations for commending resolutions to honor residents who you believe deserve recognition for their outstanding contributions to our community. Please let me know. You can send nominations to my Chief of Staff, Madison McCabe, at [email protected]. Your submission should include the nominee’s full name and a description of their contributions.

It is my honor to represent you and the people of the 34th District.

Sincerely,

Delegate Kathleen Murphy

There will be crews performing excavation and fill operations, clearing, storm pipe work, paving and other construction-related activities Sept. 18-23 along eastbound and westbound Route 7 and on other neighborhood streets.

As a reminder, drivers will experience lane shifts on Route 7, traffic pattern changes on neighborhood streets, and detours along the corridor. Please see the related traffic alerts. Temporary road closures are listed here.

Utility relocation work and other construction activities are ongoing in the Colvin Run and Difficult Run area

Drivers are reminded that the speed limit along Route 7 has been temporarily reduced to 45 miles per hour in active work zones between Reston Avenue and Jarrett Valley Drive.

All work is subject to change based on weather and schedule. Crews may be conducting work during the overnight hours under the project's Fairfax County Noise Waiver permit.

Please note that Washington Gas crews are also working along the corridor as part of the concurrent pipe replacement project.

National Hispanic Heritage Month is September 15th to October 15th, 2022. The Fairfax County Department of Neighborhood and Community Services is celebrating with events at several of our community centers. This month is designated to pay tribute to the generations of Hispanic Americans who have positively influenced and enriched our nation and our society.

Just for fun: Rec Centers are featuring Zumba classes. And for more information on Hispanic Heritage Month events at Fairfax County parks, visit the Fairfax County Park Authority Mi Conexion al Parque webpage.

COVID-19 Vaccine Update

The Biden-Harris Administration published a plan to get Americans an updated COVID-19 vaccine shot and manage COVID- 19 for this fall. The Administration’s plan focuses on making sure that Americans continue to have easy and equitable access to lifesaving tools, particularly the updated COVID-19 vaccines. Success relies on all Americans—state and local leaders, health care providers, employers, educators, community- and faith-based organizations, and individuals—doing their part and taking commonsense actions to protect themselves, their loved ones, and their communities.

When Should a Student Stay Home?

Help your student succeed by encouraging them to miss as few school days as possible. However, do make sure your student stays home if they are sick.  If you are asking: when should your child stay home? Visit the FCPS website for helpful information regarding absences and how to best work with your child and your school to prevent learning loss.
