District 34 Update October 8, 2021

October is Domestic Violence Awareness month. In June, Governor Northam signed my bill, HB1992, into law. This law keeps guns away from repeated domestic abusers. I fought hard to get this landmark bill through the General Assembly. Guns and domestic violence are a lethal combination and I am proud of my work to take guns out of the hands of criminals.

We had another busy week in District 34.

On Saturday, I joined Second-Gentleman Doug Emhoff, Governor McAuliffe, Congresswoman Wexton, Delegate Subramanyam and Delegate Gooditis at an AAPI Mobilization event in Loudoun County. There are only 25 days left until Election Day on Nov 2nd. Make sure to vote!

Tuesday, Oct 12th is the last day to register to vote for November. You can check your registration, register to vote or find your polling location at iwillvote.com

On Sunday, McLean Project of the Arts held their annual Artfest in the McLean Central Park. Each year I sponsor a booth featuring the art work of artists with disabilities. Several groups and artists joined the tent this year--  I am grateful to Lee Jaworek, an artist with autism whose painting of the sunshine captured my heart and inspired me to sponsor the booth at ArtFest. Lee is a part of Zenaviv, an organization that highlights the work of artists with Autism. We included art from several other artists from Zenaviv. We also included creations by those working with ServiceSource, an organization that is essential to thousands of Northern Virginians with disabilities, their families and our communities. Another artist, Connor Cummings, displayed his beautiful photographs of scenery and nature. My personal favorite was the photograph of Harper’s Ferry in West Virginia. I am glad I have the opportunity to support these incredibly talented artists each year and provide a space for the community to enjoy their work, support the artists and bring their art into their homes. I would like to thank Lori Carbonneau for her leadership in bringing art to McLean.
